Due to disturbances, the operating frequency ina power system can deviate from the declared or nominal frequency. For the purpose of operation, control andprotection of the power system, there is a need to estimate with high accuracyin real time the system operating frequency.
Drawing on the voltage and current waveformsobtained from the data acquisition systems, the objective of the project is todevelop a fast and accurate signal processing algorithm suitable for onlineapplications for estimating the operating frequency in a power system. The project will involve synthesis andidentification of parameters of power system waveforms model. It is required that the frequency estimationprocedure must be accurate for waveforms with distortions due to harmonics orfrequency components arising from transient operating conditions.
