Methods for Loss Allocation in a Transmission System

Description:

In a deregulated electricity market, there areseparate generator companies and transmission company. The generator companies use the transmissionsystem for wheeling power to loads. Active-power losses arise in the power transmission. Active-power losses represent one of thecomponents for electricity pricing. There is a need to allocate active-power losses amongst the marketparticipants (generators and consumers). Solution schemes for the loss allocation have to be fair andequitable. At present, there are variousschemes adopted by different energy markets.

The objectives of the project are:
  • to perform a critical evaluation of the existingloss allocation methods.
  • to propose new methods for loss allocation foraddressing the deficiencies or drawbacks of the existing methods.
Steady-state network analysis includingpower-flow analysis will be required in the project.
